About Me

Aliya Byrd

I’m Aliya, a Computer Science graduate from Spelman College with a passion for designing accessible, user-centered digital experiences. My work sits at the intersection of design and technology, grounded in equity, inclusivity, and intentional storytelling. I love transforming complex problems into thoughtful solutions through research, prototyping, and clean visual design. Whether I’m building a website that amplifies community impact or celebrating underrepresented voices in tech, I aim to create work that feels both meaningful and intuitive.

Throughout my time at Spelman, I was deeply involved in leadership and community-building. I founded Take Lead, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering Black girls through education and mentorship. I served as President of Girls Who Code for three years, where I launched a mentorship pipeline connecting college women with younger girls in tech. I also contributed to campus life through roles on the Junior and Senior Class Councils, served as Telecommunications Chair for NSBE, and helped bring the Mentoring Corps initiative to Spelman.

Professionally, I’ve grown through hands-on experience across engineering, design, and research-focused programs. I interned as a Software Engineer at Adobe in Seattle, contributing to the After Effects team and collaborating closely with designers, product managers, and QA. I’m also an alum of Google Tech Exchange, Adobe x HBCU 2020, and Microsoft Tech Resilience—experiences that expanded my technical foundation, deepened my understanding of human-centered design, and strengthened my commitment to building thoughtful, inclusive products.
